The commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Khalifa Haftar, has confirmed his participation in the talks of the 5 + 5 joint military commission to be held in Geneva. According to the UN office in Libya on Facebook, the special representative of the UN Secretary General for Libya, Hasan Salame, met with Khalifa Haftar, during which political and economic issues were discussed.
“Marshal confirmed the participation of the Libyan National Army in the 5 + 5 talks, which will soon be held in Geneva. The meeting also addressed political and economic issues”, — the report said.
The decision to create a joint military committee with five representatives from each side of the conflict was made following a conference on Libya held in Berlin on January 19. Earlier it was reported that the Government of National Accord (PNC) of Libya, led by Fayez Sarraj, is ready to hold a meeting in this form. The first meeting of the Libyan joint military committee “5 + 5” was scheduled for January 28 in Geneva, but Mr. Haftar did not confirm his participation in the meeting.
