The EU is ready to allocate Greece € 700 million to combat the aggravation of the migration crisis. This was stated by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during a joint press conference with the presidents of the European Council and the European Parliament, the prime ministers of Greece and Croatia, reports «European Truth».
«We can provide Greece with financial assistance in the amount of 700 million euros. This amount includes 350 million euros, which can be obtained immediately, as well as an additional 350 million euros that can be requested as part of the amendments to the budget,» said von der Lajen.
According to her, financial assistance is intended to manage migration in general, as well as to create the necessary infrastructure and manage it.
Also, according to the head of the EC, the EU at the request of Greece launched a civil protection mechanism.
“Thanks to this, Greece can receive assistance in the form of medical equipment, medical teams, shelters, tents, blankets,” said von der Lajen.
Recall that on February 29, Turkey opened the borders with the EU for migrants. Hundreds of people went to the border on foot.
Turkey decided to open the borders after the escalation of hostilities in the Syrian province of Idlib, where 33 Turkish soldiers died as a result of attacks by troops of Bashar al-Assad and the Russian Federation.
